Malinda SCARBOROUGH

  Research Notes:

The general consensus among researchers descending from Alfred Thomas and Malinda/Melinda Scarborough Thomas is that Malinda is the daughter of Ichabod Scarborough of Wilkinson, GA.

I have found nothing that would actually support this theory, but it is known that Ichabod had several daughters that have not been identified.

It is also widely accepted by members of this family that Alfred and Malinda had a set of twins in born 02 Jun 1866, and that they were a boy and a girl. The girl being named Nacissus Malinda Thomas and the boy being named Ichabod Alfred Thomas. The boy being named Ichabod Alfred gives the impression that perhaps Malinda was the daughter of Ichabod Scarborough.

Since the 1870 census doesn't seem to exist, there is no way to put these two twins in the home of Alfred and Malinda. The death certificate for I C A Thomas gives no insight as to who his parents were, however in minuets recorded for The Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, there is mention of a letter of dismissal for Benjamin F. Thomas and sister Nanci A. Horne dated 27 Feb 1892 and says P. L. Thomas, I. A. Thomas and Benjamin Thomas were brothers.

There is also mention of one J. H. T. Scarborough being received by letter dated 05 Jun 1869.

There is also mention of a Liueann Thomas being received by experience 29 Sep 1883 and a letter of dismissal dated 23 Jun 1894 for Lieuann Booth stating she had joined another denomination says she was sister to P. L. Thomas.

I. A. Thomas, P. L. Thomas, J. H. T. Scarborough are mentioned in the minuets on more than one occasion.

Malinda married Alfred THOMAS on 19 Sep 1838 in Laurens Co. GA. (Alfred THOMAS was born about 1812 in GA and died after 1880 in AL.)
